My daughter & I stayed in a lodge while we were attending a Stargazing experience. It is well appointed, warm & spotless. We had a very tasty breakfast & evening meal. Staff were lovely and friendly. Would definitely recommend it to family & friends. Our dogs were made welcome too.

£47 for two burgers and pints is outrageous. Undisclosed 10% service charge. Absolute madness considering the only service I received was the food being brought from the kitchen. I was told the 10% was for service then informed “oh you didn’t get cutlery, it’s round the corner”. What’s the service for? Get your own cutlery, carry your own pint to the table (wouldn’t complain if it weren’t for the charge I wasn’t told of until after). Frankly, at the price of the burger, I’d expect the fee for carrying it out from the kitchen to me to be included.
The burger itself was completely undercooked, entirely raw in the middle. I just ate it because I couldn’t be bothered to self serve myself by taking it to the bar to illustrate its pinkness. Will actively discourage anybody from visiting.

We turned up late afternoon on a Sunday with no reservation. No problem. They had several tables free outside with a few umbrellas and shelters available in case it was raining. We ordered some food and drinks at the bar, and it arrived within a few minutes despite the pub being packed with customers already. The staff were calm and friendly, and there were lots of them everywhere which is the key: this pub does not skimp on staff. They don't run low on food either, because they are managed well. The car park was nearly full when we arrived, so book ahead and avoid peak times if you can. There were two EV parking places available so we will bring our electric car next time. Overall, a great experience. If only pubs in North Yorkshire were this good!

Cracking place!! Great local ales, with a wide variety of styles. Warm and welcoming staff, lovely home made food with good portions and fair prices.
Long may it continue!!

Only popped for a Sunday lunch so limited experience of the place, but it certainly seemed to be a very popular pub. I've never seen so many dogs inside a pub which was great for ours. Excellent menu choice, even had half-portion on roast dinners (great idea) and consideration given for allergy sufferers too. A good selection of beer available and an incredible beer garden out the back set into the Hillside. Staff were very friendly. Would recommend!

This place is a gem! Great beer and vibe. Came in after a rainy hike to see Sycamore Gap and met Sue for samples and a lovely warm fire. Sue made our holiday by recommending the sites to take in and even booked us for the stargazing they do there! Brilliant!

Had an excellent meal here. We dropped in after visiting Vindolanda. The place was packed, but the ladies got a table for our party of 4. Food came very fast, and everything was perfect. The steak and ale pie was one of the best I've ever had. My Guiness came with a shamrock on top, a nice touch. Overall an excellent place with cool pub ambiance. My daughter also told me they have a fairly large outdoor seating area also.
